The Alden Parent Teacher Association is a group of volunteers who organize and promote initiatives to enhance the student and teacher experience at Alden School in Duxbury, Massachusetts.

PRESIDENT (2023-2025)

Oversee internal affairs and all PTA programs. Act as a liaison between the parents, teachers and principal. Serve as ex-officio member of all committees. Preside at Alden PTA meetings.
VICE PRESIDENT - INTERNAL AFFAIRS (2023-2025)

Oversee internal affairs and PTA communication. Assist with PTA initiatives.
VICE PRESIDENT - ENRICHMENT (2023-2025)

Oversee school enrichment and educational programs. Assist with PTA initiatives.
VICE PRESIDENT - FUNDRAISING (2024-2026)
Jill Sullivan
Oversee fundraising and PTA sponsored activities. Assist with PTA initiatives.
TREASURER (2024-2026)
Jen Burns
Create a budget for the school year. Process incoming payments. Write checks for expenses. Balance checkbook.
SECRETARY (2024-2026)

Keep minutes at PTA meetings. Manages PTA correspondence as needed. Maintain by-laws.

FUNDRAISING
Book Fair Coordinators
Meredith Jefski, Amanda Randall, Caroline Panagiotopoulos
Coordinate the marketing, sales, set-up and tear-down, volunteer staffing, inventory control and overall operations of Book Fairs.
Time Commitment: 2 hours/month (September/April) and 25+ hours the week of the onsite book fair.
Dragon Dash
Leah LaRose, Cindy Winters-Brintnall, Meaghan Chandler
Organize the yearly Dragon Dash fundraiser and help at the Dragon Dash (hand out race bibs, organize students, etc.) .
Time Commitment: 1-2 hours/week (September) and at school the day of the Dragon Dash (typically first week of October).
Memory Book
Melissa Murphy, Kierstin Kerr, Sue Fischer, Meredith Sicilia
Work with Classroom Coordinators to collect and organize pictures for the year-end Alden Memory Book.
Time Commitment: 2-6 hours a week to design the Memory Book starting in January to submit for publication in April.
School Picture Day
Sue Fischer and Meredith Sicilia
Organize Picture Day at Alden School and retake day.
Time Commitment: 1-2 hours/week at the beginning of the school year and be present to organize volunteers, kids and photographers.
Birthday Books/Bulletin Board/Library Assistant
Meredith Jefski
Work with the librarian to process online birthday book orders and prepare books at the library to be given to students. Time Commitment: 2-3 hours/month at the library.
Online Store/Merchandise
Jessica Spagnoli
Add new designs to online store (all deliveries made directly to customers). Time commitment: 1-2 hours/month (all remote)
ENRICHMENT
Author Visits
Lara Kingston
Research, coordinate and schedule Alden School author visits.
Time Commitment: 1-4 hours/month throughout the year. Must be present for author visits in the spring. Busiest time in the spring.
Battle of the Books
Heather McGraw, Liz Bishop, Maggie Liu
Create teams from registrations, maintain resources and help organize activities.
Time Commitment: 1-4 hours/month throughout the year. Must be present for the final battles in the spring. Busiest time in the spring.
Passport Club

Organize materials and arrange presenters for Passport Club after school program.
Time Commitment: 4-8 hours/month
Kids Care Club

Organize a community based after school activity for students to participate in three times a year.
Time Commitment: 4-8 hours/month
Garden Club

Organize student volunteers to maintain plantings at the Alden School entrances and other project around campus.
Time Commitment: 4-8 hours/month
Field Day
Sarah Sullivan
Coordinate field day volunteers.
Time Commitment: 6-8 hours leading up to the event and attend Field Day in June.
Science Fair
Maggie Liu, Liz Bishop
Coordinate a breakfast buffet for the judges and concessions for families attending the Science Fair. Organize volunteers to assist with the breakfast.
Time Commitment: 6-8 hours planning leading up to the event, 2-4 hours to organize, set up the night before the Science Fair, help with breakfast on the day of the Science Fair.
**Please note, Alden School organizes the Science Fair (to be held in the spring). Alden PTA is only responsible for the breakfast and concessions.
Talent Show
Sarah Roberts
Organize student acts, coordinate volunteers for night of the show, plan talent show schedule, oversee production of show.
Time Commitment: 6-8 hours/week in the month leading up to to the show.
Duxbury Day at Fenway
Mandy Flannery
Organize yearly Red Sox game ticket sales and ticket distribution.
Time Commitment: 1-3 hours/week leading up to the game only.
INTERNAL AFFAIRS
Classroom Coordinator Liaison

Act as the liaison between the PTA, teachers and all Classroom Coordinators during the school year.
Time Commitment: 1-5 hours/week. Busiest time: September/October. (all remote)
*Classroom Coordinators for each classroom help build class contact list, plan classroom parties and share news with families in your class via the Alden PTA website message board.
Volunteers

Organize classroom coordinators at beginning of school year. Assist with scheduling all PTA programs and event volunteers. Set up signups and check volunteer eligibility.
Time Commitment: 1-5 hours/week. Busiest time: September/October. (all remote)
Webmaster
Luba Gilpatric
Manage www.aldenpta.org. Run reports. Manage Google email accounts. Experience with Google Drive helpful.
Time Commitment: 5 hours/week. (all remote)
Social Media
Marcy Tavano
Manage social media accounts and assist with email messaging (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter). Design posts with www.Canva.com (easy to use!).
Time Commitment: 5 hours/week. (all remote)
Staff Wish Lists

Maintain Amazon Wish Lists for staff.
Time Commitment: 1-2 hours/week. (all remote)
Staff Appreciation
Colleen Connolly, Katie Blake
Organize staff appreciation efforts.
Time Commitment: 4-8 hours/ month. (must be able to be at the school during the school day)
Recess Committee/Playground Committee
Sarah Sullivan
Liaison with administration regarding playground enhancements, parent recess support, set up and maintain sign -up genius, communicate with parents if there is inclement weather, check in and make adjustment to the program as you see necessary.
Time Commitment: 1 hour/week.
